Yandex Webmaster integration

Yandex Webmaster is on the map, not in the product yet.

Query data and index status from Yandex, completing the picture for the engines IndexNow reaches.

Not connectable yet

We read from this source rather than publish to it, which means our webhook is no substitute: it delivers outward. This needs an inbound OAuth connection we have not built yet, so there is nothing here to connect today.

How it works

Yandex Webmaster connects through Yandex OAuth against the user-scoped v4 API. We read popular queries, query history, and indexing status for your site in Yandex, which completes the triad of engines our IndexNow pings reach: Bing and Yandex both consume IndexNow, and with this connection the Yandex side reports back the way Bing Webmaster Tools does for Bing.

In the loop, this extends the measure step to one more engine, and we are honest about who needs it. For most Western small businesses Yandex traffic is thin, so the connection is off by default and marked as relevant for sites with Russia, Turkiye, or CIS audiences. For those sites it matters genuinely: query data and index status from the engine a meaningful share of their visitors actually use.

Best forSites with real audiences in Russia, Turkiye, or the CIS region who want Yandex measured like the other engines.

Setup, step by step

  1. Verify your site in Yandex Webmaster if it is not already.
  2. Turn the Yandex connection on in SearchHandled, since it is off by default.
  3. Click Connect and sign in through Yandex OAuth with the account that holds the verification.
  4. Select your verified site from the list the API returns.
  5. Review the first pull of popular queries and indexing status alongside your Google and Bing data.

Best practices

Only turn it on if the audience exists

The connection is off by default because for most sites Yandex data adds noise, not signal. Check your analytics for Russia, Turkiye, or CIS traffic first, and connect when the audience is real.

Let IndexNow do the submission work

Yandex consumes the IndexNow pings we already send on every publish, so discovery is handled. This connection is the read side, confirming indexing and reporting the queries Yandex sends you.

Connect with the verifying account

The v4 API is user-scoped, so we see the sites verified under the Yandex account that connects. Use the account that holds your site's verification, and reverify promptly if it changes hands.

Read Yandex queries on their own terms

Yandex's query mix differs from Google's, especially in Russian-language search. Divergence between the engines is information about your audiences, not an inconsistency in the data.

Known issues

What practitioners actually report, from official docs, issue trackers, and community forums.

Thin relevance outside its home markets

For sites without Russia, Turkiye, or CIS traffic, Yandex data is sparse and adds dashboard noise without informing any decision.

How we handle itThe connection ships off by default and is labeled for the markets where it earns its place. Turning it on is a deliberate choice, and the rest of the product never depends on it.

User-scoped API access follows the connecting account

The v4 API exposes the sites verified under the connected Yandex user, so a connection made from an account that later loses verification stops seeing the site.

How we handle itWe surface verification loss in your dashboard as soon as pulls fail, and reconnecting with the currently verified account restores the data with no other reconfiguration.

Questions teams ask

Should we connect Yandex if we have no Russian or Turkish traffic?

Probably not, and it is off by default for that reason. The loop works fully without it. Connect it when your analytics show a real audience in the markets Yandex serves.

Does SearchHandled submit URLs to Yandex?

Yes, through IndexNow, which Yandex consumes and which fires on every publish and update regardless of this connection. This connection adds the reporting side: queries and index status.

Can SearchHandled change our Yandex Webmaster settings?

We read popular queries, query history, and indexing status. Site settings, verification, and everything else in Yandex Webmaster stay untouched.
